Stella Zotis Designer

New York, NY

Stella is a New Yorker through and through, complete with the accent, the attitude and the punk-rock look.

Growing up, all she knew was that she wanted to look like the New York Dolls or Iggy Pop in his leather pants. She knew her aesthetic at a very early age and she’s always called it “pure style”. With the help of her mother and a family steeped in the fur and leather industries of their native Greece, she began making her own garments of the subculture. It remained a hobby as she spent years working as a makeup artist in the music industry. However doing makeup for photo shoot after photo shoot proved too limiting for Stella. So she began adjusting the clothing on the subjects and helping to style the entire shoot. One memorable shoot with Debbie Harry caused an awakening and she realized she had a true eye for fashion. So she started designing clothes for rock and rollers and the orders started rolling in.

Stella draws inspiration from rock luminaries such as Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones. And she idolizes fashion icons Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga. Her mantra is “no bull” and she believes that her clients need to be confident enough to carry off her designs. She urges people to take risks and not be safe all of the time.

On Project Runway, Stella made quite an impact. However, despite high scores, she was unable to win a challenge and was eliminated on episode eight.

Since her season, Stella has gained much success and debuted her Couture fashion line at 2010 NYFW. In 2012 Stella had a baby boy with her long-time partner Ratbones. He’s a DJ, artist and what she calls a true punk rocker. She took a brief pause from fashion to focus on being a mom, but over the past year she has slowly been getting back to work. She hasn’t been working often, but if a record label executive or a celeb calls she always makes time. And although she loves being a mom she’s just now ready to jump back into work full time. And what better way to jump in than to return to Project Runway All Stars!?

Stella loves being the mother of a two-year-old and believes it’s made her even stronger and more confident in life. She wants to represent all working moms in the world. And she wants to win.
